Canada’s esteemed Cree writer, poet and Order of Canada recipient, Michelle Good, Canadian Keynote Speaker at the 2027 San Miguel Writers’ Conference and Literary Festival.
Aysanabee (Ace-in-abbey) is an Oji-Cree artist who writes anthems for the soul. Growing up in Northern Canada without running water or electricity, he was inspired to become a storyteller through music. With a swirling mix of indie, folk, and electronic sounds, and pulse-quickening fingerpicking, his music is hypnotic and melodious. His style has drawn comparisons to Bon Iver, Matt Corby, Hozier, The Black Pumas, and Kings of Leon.
Aysanabee’s music is both anthemic and cathartic. He made history as the first Indigenous (First Nation) artist to win the JUNO Awards for Alternative Album of the Year and the coveted Songwriter of the Year (2024) and as the first Indigenous artist to reach #1 on Mediabase Canada's Alternative Rock chart with “Nomads”. His debut album, Watin, named after his grandfather, combined music and journalism with artistry and expression. The album was shortlisted for the 2023 Polaris Music Prize and established Aysanabee as a unique voice in the Canadian music scene. His 2025 sophomore album, Edge Of The Earth, was included on the CBC’s 10 best Canadian albums of 2025, won two 2026 JUNO Awards, and has tracks featured on playlists around the world. LEIDEN is a Cuban-Mexican singer-songwriter and sociologist, recognized as one of the leading voices of the new Latin American song movement. She fuses Latin roots with avant-garde rhythms and genres, with an innovative, rhythmic and high-quality production.
She was named Artist of the Year at the 2023 Symphonic Latino Awards and Best Indie Woman Artist at the 2025 Monster Music Awards, and has received international nominations including CUBADISCO (Cuba), the Estela Awards (Guatemala), and the BIME Equity Awards powered by Amazon Music in the New Talent category. In September, 2026, she received the prestigious musical composer award from Mexico's Fundacion Cultural Navachiste A.C. .
With five studio albums and a live DVD, Leiden has collaborated with renowned artists such as Celso Piña, Aterciopelados, Vivir Quintana, Torreblanca, and Maruja Limón. She has performed in 12 countries across Europe and Latin America, and at major festivals and venues including Vive Latino, Festival Internacional Cervantino, Coordenada, Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris, and Lunario del Auditorio Nacional.
Songs such as “Tu Boca” and “Cuando Soñaba” have reached millions of streams across digital platforms, while “Hasta Salvarnos” has been performed by more than 40 women around the world.
Her work also extends to film, television, documentaries, short films, and performing arts. She composed and performed eight featured songs for the second season of the ViX series Mujeres Asesinas.
Leiden is a voting member of The Latin Recording Academy and the creator and director of Volver al Corazón, a participatory testimonial songwriting project developed with incarcerated women in Mexico and Panama. She is also the founder and director of Jueves Music, the first women-led music label in Mexico.
Michelle Good is a Cree writer and a member of the Red Pheasant Cree Nation in Saskatchewan. After working for Indigenous organizations for twenty-five years, she obtained a law degree as a 43-year-old single mom and advocated for residential school survivors for over fourteen years.
In 2014 Good earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia while still practising law and managing her own law firm. Her poems, short stories, and essays have been published in magazines and anthologies across Canada, and her poetry was included on two lists of the best Canadian poetry in 2016 and 2017.
Five Little Indians, her first novel, won the HarperCollins/UBC Best New Fiction Prize, the Amazon First Novel Award, the Governor General’s Literary Award the Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Award, the Evergreen Award, the City of Vancouver Book of the Year Award, and Canada Reads 2022.
On October 7, 2022 Simon Fraser University granted her an Honorary Doctor of Letters. On June 12, 2024, the University of the Fraser Valley also granted her an Honorary Doctor of Letters. Truth Telling: Seven Conversations about Indigenous life in Canada was released May 30, 2023 and was shortlisted for the Writers Trust Balsillie Prize for Public Policy.
In May 2024 Truth Telling was shortlisted for the Saskatchewan Book Awards, the Indigenous Voices Award and won the High Plains Book Award. She was named the University of Calgary Distinguished Writer for 2024/2025. She is the winner of the 2025 Indspire Award in the Arts category and was admitted as a Member of the Order of Canada on October 17, 2025, formally announced December 31, 2025.
